2008 FoML Conference is Monday,
October 6

The
annual FoML conference will be held on Monday, October 6, 2008 at the Senator
Inn in Augusta.
Doors open at 8 am and the conference
finishes at 3:30 pm.
Among
the highlights of the day are -
-
A presentation by Candis Joyce,
Director of the Swans Island Public Library, who will describe the impact
of the disastrous fire which destroyed her library during a lightning storm
in July. She'll discuss what was learned from this event. (She'll also be
looking for tips on how to start a Friends group.)
-
The District Consultants will
give an update on the Maine State Library.
-
Kathy Amoroso from the Maine
Historical Society will discuss the Maine Memory Network and its Maine Community
Heritage Project, as well as the preservation services it can offer libraries.
-

Bill
Lippincott, left, owner of Lippincott Books in Bangor, a long-standing supporter
of libraries and an antiquarian bookman, will discuss what makes a book
valuable. "It's more than scarcity and age that determines value, and
some wonderful books have been found at library book sales," he says.
After his talk Bill has agreed to spend some one-on-one time with anyone
wanting his impression of a particular book.
(Check back often for the latest
information on the conference program.)
